WTC $50 Mexico Gold Coin 1 of 34

A very nice guy send me a picture of the WTC Mexican gold coin from 1945, what a beauty. This coin was found in 34 pieces and because part of the 1 of 34 series. Why somebody would have 34 Mexican gold coins in a vault under the World Trade Center is always the million dollar question but now its part of the WTC coins history a story that becomes better and better every day. I have about 3 new coins never before seen on this website to add to the site. Again on the Mexico coins if any of the other 34 coin owners out there would write me a note I have something special to share with you guys on this coin.

WTC 1987-W $50 PR62DCAM

Again from the same friend here is another PCGS Proof coin making it out of the World Trade Center Vault. This coin is the 1987 $50 gold 1 oz coin certified as PR62DCAM, with beautiful luster and mirror finish. A note from my friend says that there is only 1 coin in existence of the Pr62DCAM certified PCGS WTC recovery.

WTC 1987-S $1 Proof 69 DCAM

Just when I think I know everything that came out of the WTC vault a good friend also collecting the WTC coins sends me these pictures.

Silver $1 Silver 1987 -S PR69DCAM  (Proof 69) (Deep Cameo) beautiful coin with still the mint Proof mirror finish on it, a WTC coin I never knew existed from the WTC vault. The Silver Eagle of the WTC Vault

As we all know there where found many different $1 silver eagles at the WTC, the correct number of different silver eagles are 21 different WTC silver eagles to collect, it was Tony from the UK I think that pointed that out to me in a comment on one of my post. So 21 different eagles from 6 different years. When I saw different eagles we would count that the year 2001, has a  10 different types. The Gem Uncirculated, MS 68, MS 69. and then we have the eagles in the numbered sets like 1 of 190 etc total of 7 different numbered sets with an 2001 eagle in them.

So to collect all the 21 different silver eagles out there, you would have to get silver eagles from broken up sets of coins and all the eagles from the regular years. I would say the 1 of 12 with the gold bar and the silver eagle is probably the hardest one to get as there are only 12 pieces of that coin.

The strangest WTC coin story

The story of the silver 10 Peso from Uruguay, why did somebody have 5,000 of these coins in the vault under the World Trade Center, its from 1961 and its silver, but the coins are Uncirculated so maybe somebody though it was a good investment in silver coins at the time and bough a whole lot of them I am not sure. But the story is that these coins where some of the first coins to be graded by Collectors Universe and that there where 5,000 coins of this 10 Peso silver coin from 1961.

WTC coins with heat/burn damage

Last week there where so pretty cool WTC  Coins up for sale on ebay, its was a whole collection of  6 coins all with heat or burn damage to them. The coins was from the WTC Vault and had clear evidence of the extrem heat the coins in the vault was facing after the towers fell.

I am sure the phone in the auction does not do the coin justice but it was I think a sucessful action and the coins are now sold to a new owner. It just another way of collecting the WTC coins, each has his own way I guess to collect.

1915 WTC RECOVERY AUSTRIAN 100 CORONA

One of my favorite coins that I don't yet own, is this 1915 WTC recovery Austrian 100 corona coin found at the WTC site. This coin has been seen on ebay a few times but still love it and the way it looks in the PCGS slab.

Its one of those coins that are really old and you just know that not many was in that vault when the towers came down. It reminds me of another coin that I really like from the WTC vault and that is the  1912 English Gold Coin found at the vault. I have not seen any of them up for sale in a long time but its out there.

It does not happen often that I find a coin from the world trade center vault that is not in my collection but today there was one. This 1983 1 oz Krugerrand was not in the collection on this website. Again as with many of the other coins I just know that it has been certified PCGS Ground Zero Recovery coin. But how many are out there of this 1983 gold coins is not certain. The seller on ebay is having at a Buy it now for $1500 but remember with the Krugerrand coins they are not .999 like the US eagles and gold coins they are .917 but still its now a historic coin and its for sale if anybody are out there collecting the South African WTC coins. How many gold kruggerands where there under the world trade center? how many different years, this is the 1983 1 oz gold coin but where there other coins still not seen here on the wtc911coin.com or other places. I will keep looking at Ebay for answers. The 1983  1 oz gold coin what a beauty

New WTC coin Never Seen Before

So this to me is a new coin in the WTC coin collection, its the 1 of 12 2001 silver eagle.

A very special WTC Ground Zero Recovery find!

On November 11, 2001 two months after the disaster, this 2001 American Silver Eagle was among those found within the vault. They were taken away by Brinks to a storage facility and subsequently graded by PCGS. There are only 12 of these in existence. This is the most rare silver eagle from a limited grouping of all WTC silver eagles.

This coin is part of a two piece set which was comprised of this coin along with a one ounce Credit Suisse Gold Ingot also marked "1 of 12". Being a "1 of 12" set, obviously there are only 12 that exist slabbed and certified by PCGS. Of the 12 sets that existed, 9 of those 12 sets were owned by one person who's secretary accidentally shipped the 1 of 12 Silver Eagles out as normal 2001 Silver Gem Unc Eagles.  Who knows if or when the others will ever surface as they are probably tucked away just as that ..... normal silver 2001 Gem Unc Eagles. MS70 $25 Gold Coin Up on Ebay 2 Known Only | MS70 $25

Absolutely incredible coin!

This is without a doubt the most desirable coin of all American Eagles that were recovered from the Iron Mountain Vault beneath the World Trade Center. On November 11, 2001 two months after the disaster, this $25 American Gold Eagle was among those found within the vault. They were taken away by Brinks to a storage facility and subsequently graded by PCGS. To imagine that there were some that were able to obtain the coveted PCGS grade of MS70 after the events of that fateful day is simply amazing.

There are only 2 of these 2001 $25s in MS70 known to be in existence, and the other one are closely held by the originator and is not for sale. This will be your only chance to own one, and what an acquisition it would be. A collector's dream.

PCGS Error On Slabs from WTC

So I think I have talked about the error's that PCGS made on some of the slabs that has the WTC coins in them, just got another examplet that comes from Bobby he has two coins both in the 1 of 1ooo series. As you can see on these pages the 1 of 1000 series should be a 1 oz silver coin MS69 from 2001 and a 1999 1/4 gold eagle also MS69. Well Bobby is sending me a picture of 2 coins both WTC 2001 1 oz silver coin but have a look at the flag insert on the coins.

Both coins have the 1 of 1000 on them but one is MS69 the other is Gem Uncirculated. I wonder if more coins like this is out there. As always please send me pictures of coins that are special in some way or not posted on these pages as I want all the WTC coins to be up here at some point. I am not sure what to think about this coin, as with other coins we have seen from the WTC coin collection it did look like PCGS was ina bit of a rush when grading the coins. As Bobby points out the coin graded Gem Uncirculated is from Collectors Universe as can be seen on the back of the coin and we know that Collectors Universe parent company to PCGS did all the early grading and only certifed coins as have come from the WTC vault but never grade anything with MS eventhough some of the Gem coins they certified looks good enough to be MS material. So that could be a possible explaination that this coin was a coin that got graded right before PCGS took over. Another possible senario could be that some coins graded in the 1 of 1000 series was all graded at first by collectors universe and was later send back for MS grading at PCGS this one for some reason did not make it back. This could be confirm if all other coins in the series all where grade by PCGS ( look at the back)

Many other possible reasons but that is what I could come  up with from what I know about the coins.

Question About WTC Coins Certified By PCGS

For some reason I am getting a lot of questions right now about the coins found at the World Trade Center and certified by PCGS. The questions are all along the lines of "How do I know that these coins where really in a vault under the WTC ?" $20 Gold Melted With 3 Silver Coins

A guy posted this picture of a $20 Gold Coin melted with 3 silver coins during the 1906 San Francisco Fire. The date of the gold coin cannot be read but the silver coins melted to the Gold coin during the fires in 1906 in San Francisco. This is just to give people on here an idea of what the fire can do to coins. The WTC coins where in a vault on only some of the coins has visible damage from the heat, but nothing like this coin.

Best Christmas Gift 2008

I was thinking that one of the best Christmas gifts for 2008 would be a silver coin from 2001 found at Ground Zero in New York. The Silver Eagle dug from the debris of the World Trade Center and found in a vault under ground. This coin has with stood the destruction of the towers coming down and the extreme heat of the fires that raged for days after 9-11. This coin is a symble of America on how it gets itself up after it has been torn down and still looks as beautifull as ever. To give that gift to the guy or girl that has everything else, this would be the most treasured gift of all. $10 Gold Eagle WTC

It seams to me that the $10 and the $25 gold eagles from the world trade center ground zero are the hardest to find to complete a series. The 1 oz gold eagle are most often there and the 1/10 oz gold eagle is there but the 1/4 and the 1/2 oz seams harder to find. I was thinking about the reason for that. I can understand people investing in gold coins would put a $50 gold coin in their vault under the world trade center. But why would they put $5 gold coins over $10 or $25 gold coins ? I am not sure what the reason are but I will try and list all $10 and $25 gold eagles for sale on E-bay for people looking for one of these coins

I have gotten a few email about the gold coins and the silver coins and where they came from. A lot of people writing me wants to know, why all this gold and silver was located in the world trade center. United States Rare Coin Price

How many of the coins found in the Vault of the World Trade Center could get the label of a United States Rare Coin ? What would their prices be ? Well we know that the WTC 2001 $50 Gold Coin MS69 is seen selling on E-bay for as much as $12,000 and since the numbers found of this coin is very small I would say this coin will be a rare coin. Also the coins graded by PCGS from the World Trade Center as MS70 must be considered a united states rare coin. The 1994 $50 Gold MS69 also comes to mind for rare US coins from the the World Trade Center. Will the history of these coins make them united states rare coins and make their prices go up well we have already seen that, will they go up more with time I think we can all agree the answer is yes. 1961 SILVER URUGUAY 1O PESOS

I am sure that the story behind the 1961 SILVER  URUGUAY  1O PESOS with over 5000 coins in the WTC vault is going to be one of the strangest story told, and I wish I could be the one to tell that story but I just don't have all the detail yet on it. So picture this, why would anybody put 5000 pcs of a 10 pesos from Uruguay into a vault under the world trade center ? Is there any good explanation for that ? It just does not make any sense. On its own without being under the world trade center in a vault would this be considered a valuable coin? Well I check that out and right now Non WTC this coin sells for $13.50 Buy It Now. So I guess not a valuable coin if it does not come from the WTC Vault. So what where 5000 of these coins doing there ? Did one individual have all those coins sitting there for a reason was it at the time a cheap way to buy Silver to hedge that the silver price would go up? Maybe but I don't know, or is there something else that is at play here. No matter what it is the circumstances about this coin and how it ended up under the world trade center will make for a great story some day and for right now I think this coin is very interesting and I would love to hear the full story

WTC Recovery Silver Eagles

WTC Recovery Silver Eagles are probably in the numbers from 50,000 to 100,000 total Silver Eagles recovered from the vault under the world trade center. The total number is not release yet by PCGS but most people that I have talked to think the numbers is around these figures. Now over 80% of all the coins that came out of the World Trade Center vault was certified by PCGS and Collectors Universe as Gem Uncirculated and not with an MS grading.
