1991 WTC $50 Gold Eagle
Its been really slow lately with the WTC coins and what has been up for sale on ebay. I did add a Austrian Gold Philharmonic 200 Sch to my collection only because I know I cannot get the the 1 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic I guess I have to take the 1/10 of an once. Anyway anybody sitting on the 1 oz coin send me an email and lets talk.
I am also looking at the 1991 WTC $50 Gold Eagle that are up on ebay right now on Auction No Reserve that does not happen often and I would like to see if the price on this coin is good enough to buy it.

WTC 1987-W PR69 DCAM
The last WTC coin in the series of 3 coins that my friend send over pictures of, and as you can see I saved the best for last. This is an absolute beautiful coin, certified as PR69 from PCGS this coin is a fine as when it came from the US mint. This coin might have survived 2 WTC boomings in 1993 and in 2001 and still keeps its luster and beauty. I was told that 2 coins exists of the WTC 1987-W PR69 DCAM from PCGS

WTC 1987-W $50 PR62DCAM
Again from the same friend here is another PCGS Proof coin making it out of the World Trade Center Vault. This coin is the 1987 $50 gold 1 oz coin certified as PR62DCAM, with beautiful luster and mirror finish. A note from my friend says that there is only 1 coin in existence of the Pr62DCAM certified PCGS WTC recovery.

My Christmas Gift from My Wife I hope
This is the ultimate set of WTC coins, as they have a few things going for them. They are all from the WTC, all from 2001, all are MS 69 and all have the barcode on them that will give population numbers with PCGS. This is the real deal here, its expensive but would love to own it.
As you can see there is a Best Offer attach in this auction and maybe the seller will let it go for 10k or something like that, but very nice set.

Interesting WTC Coins
So this week I really found some interesting WTC coins up for sales on Ebay, these coins are different and from different sellers but they are both at no reserve auctions my favorite auction form as you know somebody will get the great WTC coins at a market price.
So the first coin set I want to show you guys are the 1 of 1000 coin series, I have seen it may times on Ebay around the $1,000 level but maybe in a no reserve auction the prices will be a little better and somebody can get a deal on this set.

The other very interesting No reserve auction I see this week on Ebay are the following mistake label from PCGS, at most I would say its fun to have both different 1991 labels of the $1 silver eagle from the WTC, but that is for the very dedicated collector. The other thing is the 1991 wtc silver eagle that is not found that often to begin with. So for that reason its a fun auction up at no reserve.

WTC E-Book Section Review
Here is a basic timeline of the discovery and retrieval of the WTC Coins
Oct. 30, 2001: News reports confirm that “a small army of federal agents” stood guard as two Brinks armored trucks worth of gold from underneath Tower #5 of the World Trade Center. In order to reach the cache, workers had to get around a 10 wheeled truck and crushed cars.
Oct 31, 2001: Mayor Rudy Giuliani confirms that much of the lost treasure under 4 World Trade Center has been recovered.
Nov 1, 2001: Iron Mountain Vault that is directly under Tower 4 of the WTC is finally reached, with the coins therein transferred via Brinks armored trucks to storage facilities.
November-December, 2001: The coins are slowly recovered, and eventually sent to Collectors Universe, which is not a grading company itself. CU lists the coins as “Gem Uncirculated”.
Dec. 1, 2001 – June 2002: PCGS starts grading and cataloguing the recovered coins.
While the history of the recovered World Trade Center coins has been surrounded by debate and controversy, it is notable that Collector’s Universe raised some $42,000 for members of the NYFD and their families via the Uniformed Fire Fighters Association Widows and Children's Fund through the sale of some of the coins.

No reserve $50 Gold WTC 1998 MS 69
I really like when the market gets to decide the prices on a coin and a person puts up a WTC 1 oz gold coin in a No Reserve auction.
Great looking photo of the coin, the WTC 1998 $50 gold coin, graded MS 69 by PCGS. I am really excited to see what a coin like this would go for with the gold prices going up like they are. I will project a price above $1,500 for this coin. I will follow it and maybe even bid on it. Did I mention its even free shipping on this coin, can't beat that.

The same guy has also a WTC 1997 1 oz gold coin up for sale with No Reserve on it, this will be two very interesting auctions to watch as they go on.

WTC coins with heat/burn damage
Last week there where so pretty cool WTC Coins up for sale on ebay, its was a whole collection of 6 coins all with heat or burn damage to them. The coins was from the WTC Vault and had clear evidence of the extrem heat the coins in the vault was facing after the towers fell.

1983 1 OZ KRUGERRAND WTC
1983 1 oz Krugerrand
The 1983 1 oz kruggerand wtc
It does not happen often that I find a coin from the world trade center vault that is not in my collection but today there was one. This 1983 1 oz Krugerrand was not in the collection on this website. Again as with many of the other coins I just know that it has been certified PCGS Ground Zero Recovery coin. But how many are out there of this 1983 gold coins is not certain. The seller on ebay is having at a Buy it now for $1500 but remember with the Krugerrand coins they are not .999 like the US eagles and gold coins they are .917 but still its now a historic coin and its for sale if anybody are out there collecting the South African WTC coins. Link here
Finding the whole set 1983 1 oz gold being one of them
How many gold kruggerands where there under the world trade center? how many different years, this is the 1983 1 oz gold coin but where there other coins still not seen here on the wtc911coin.com or other places. I will keep looking at Ebay for answers. The 1983 1 oz gold coin what a beauty

Severely heat bent wtc coin | heat bent coins

A reader of this website send me this coin for the world to see, as you can see clearly on the back and the front the coin is bent by the heat that it has been exposed to. The line or shadow of the bending area is quite clear in the photo's. PCGS is not supposed to slab damaged coins, but as you see in the picture there are exceptions to that rule.
Very nice coin and more and more collectors of wtc coins are looking for coins that has been marked by the event of 9-11-2001

New WTC coin Never Seen Before
So this to me is a new coin in the WTC coin collection, its the 1 of 12 2001 silver eagle.

A very special WTC Ground Zero Recovery find!
On November 11, 2001 two months after the disaster, this 2001 American Silver Eagle was among those found within the vault. They were taken away by Brinks to a storage facility and subsequently graded by PCGS. There are only 12 of these in existence. This is the most rare silver eagle from a limited grouping of all WTC silver eagles.
This coin is part of a two piece set which was comprised of this coin along with a one ounce Credit Suisse Gold Ingot also marked "1 of 12". Being a "1 of 12" set, obviously there are only 12 that exist slabbed and certified by PCGS. Of the 12 sets that existed, 9 of those 12 sets were owned by one person who's secretary accidentally shipped the 1 of 12 Silver Eagles out as normal 2001 Silver Gem Unc Eagles. Who knows if or when the others will ever surface as they are probably tucked away just as that ..... normal silver 2001 Gem Unc Eagles. We only have one and what a find this coin is! Link to Auction

MS70 $25 Gold Coin Up on Ebay 2 Known Only | MS70 $25
Absolutely incredible coin!

This is without a doubt the most desirable coin of all American Eagles that were recovered from the Iron Mountain Vault beneath the World Trade Center. On November 11, 2001 two months after the disaster, this $25 American Gold Eagle was among those found within the vault. They were taken away by Brinks to a storage facility and subsequently graded by PCGS. To imagine that there were some that were able to obtain the coveted PCGS grade of MS70 after the events of that fateful day is simply amazing.
There are only 2 of these 2001 $25s in MS70 known to be in existence, and the other one are closely held by the originator and is not for sale. This will be your only chance to own one, and what an acquisition it would be. A collector's dream.

PCGS Answers Questions About WTC Coins
So I talked this week to PCGS and to Ken from Blue Moon coins. I just had a few questions for Ken about the 1989 $1 silver wtc coins but PCGS I had a lot of questions for them. I got on the phone with a very very nice rep. his name was peter I think his extension is #293 when you call in. He was a go getter and he of course did not know the answers to all my questions, but he did research on it and call me back. I love PCGS they are a very professional company to deal with. So here are the answers peter gave me on my questions.
1. Does PCGS have population numbers on some WTC coins?
Answer: Yes, coins with a bar code on the front is in their system and population numbers on those coins are available. In the start the coins where grade in this way, but soon PCGS reallized that some years did not have very many coins in them and to not make the coins to unique or value driven because of their low population numbers PCGS decided to not keep track of the rest of the WTC coins.
Now here are 2 coins that has a serial number on the front.

Now the 1989 silver dollar has serial number 69826.69 (.69 being the grade) so serial number 69826 and when looking the coin up at PCGS it comes back with 11 coins in MS69 and variety WTC. The other coin has serial number 9958.70 (.70 being the grade) again this coin comes up with 3 coins in the MS70 grade. So if anybody is sitting with coins that has a bar code in the front, send me pictures and I will post the population numbers.
2. Now does this mean that their could be other 1989 MS69 coins out there with out a bar code on the front ?
Answer: well yes but I don't know as PCGS has no record of coin without a bar code in the front.
3. Can I have a list or report on all the coins that PCGS has on record with a bar code on front
Answer: After talking to the person in charge of that coins series, we do not have a record like this but any code with a bar code on front will work in the population look up tool on the PCGS website.
So I show Peter the page wtc911coins.com and he was quite impressed and I think we can count on him for more information if he has any. If anybody has more burning questions I will be happy to talk to him about it.
No to the conclusion of what he said I take it that some coins are registered with the bar code and we can find numbers on them, but more coins not registered could surface and they just don't know one way or the other. I am however glad to know a little bit more about the WTC coins than I did before I talked to Peter from PCGS.

WTC Coins Buyers Look Out.
This comment came in from Maelstrom and it has a lot of valid points about the PCGS error coins. Please read and be on the look out. Just as a side note the 1 of 1000 wtc coin series consist of a 1999 $5 gold eagle MS69 and a 2001 $1 silver Eagle MS69.
By Mr. Maelstrom
Your point about someone perhaps resubmitting a “1 of 1000″ to PCGS for MS grading is a valid one. It could be that the coin failed to go MS68 or 69 and was reholdered by PCGS.

wtc 1 of 1000
However, the lack of a serial number (as seen on the back of the genuine slabs from Coin Universe/PCGS)is cause for concern. One would think that PCGS would reference the original serial number on the reholdered coin, or at least provide a number or method by which you could authenticate the coin as being a genuine WTC recovery piece. Lacking that, I cannot fully embrace the concept that these are simply “error slabs” by PCGS.
It is just as likely that these are ordinary BU 2001 $1 Silver Eagles($12-$15 currently) housed in fake (Chinese) slabs. I, personally, would NOT acquire any of the “1 of 1000″ issues with the printing to the RIGHT of the word “Recovery” without a physical inspection of the holder first. To my knowledge, PCGS placed the “1 of XXX or XXXX” designations at the lower LEFT of the grading insert on ALL of the genuine limited set coins.
These seem to be showing up on ebay lately. As an example, there is one of these “errors” simply listed as a “1 of 1000″ for sale on ebay as I write this . The slab pictured is blurry and only shows the front. When I asked the seller to provide clearer pictures of the front and back of the slab, along with any serial number, his reply was that “The picture is the actual coin. I don’t see a serial number, just a designation of 1 of 1000. The back of the holder has the PCGS logo.” In other words, the blurry picture is what it is. I’m not saying that he is selling a fake coin, but I am saying that he/she won’t help me make that determination. Hopefully, the seller doesn’t even know the difference. But, BUYER BEWARE!!!
Without some official confirmation from PCGS that these “error” inserts are genuine, and/or an opportunity to physically examine the holder (look for the four ejector pin circles faintly visible at each corner of the bottom section of the holder…fakes lack them…for now), I, personally, will avoid these until they can be proven genuine.

PCGS Error On Slabs from WTC
So I think I have talked about the error's that PCGS made on some of the slabs that has the WTC coins in them, just got another examplet that comes from Bobby he has two coins both in the 1 of 1ooo series. As you can see on these pages the 1 of 1000 series should be a 1 oz silver coin MS69 from 2001 and a 1999 1/4 gold eagle also MS69. Well Bobby is sending me a picture of 2 coins both WTC 2001 1 oz silver coin but have a look at the flag insert on the coins.

Both coins have the 1 of 1000 on them but one is MS69 the other is Gem Uncirculated. I wonder if more coins like this is out there. As always please send me pictures of coins that are special in some way or not posted on these pages as I want all the WTC coins to be up here at some point. I am not sure what to think about this coin, as with other coins we have seen from the WTC coin collection it did look like PCGS was ina bit of a rush when grading the coins. As Bobby points out the coin graded Gem Uncirculated is from Collectors Universe as can be seen on the back of the coin and we know that Collectors Universe parent company to PCGS did all the early grading and only certifed coins as have come from the WTC vault but never grade anything with MS eventhough some of the Gem coins they certified looks good enough to be MS material. So that could be a possible explaination that this coin was a coin that got graded right before PCGS took over. Another possible senario could be that some coins graded in the 1 of 1000 series was all graded at first by collectors universe and was later send back for MS grading at PCGS this one for some reason did not make it back. This could be confirm if all other coins in the series all where grade by PCGS ( look at the back)
Many other possible reasons but that is what I could come up with from what I know about the coins.
Here is the back image of the two coins.

Question About WTC Coins Certified By PCGS
For some reason I am getting a lot of questions right now about the coins found at the World Trade Center and certified by PCGS. The questions are all along the lines of "How do I know that these coins where really in a vault under the WTC ?" Well there are only one company that knows that for certain and the is PCGS they are the one that certified the coins and slab them with the American Flag insert. I have done my homework on these coins and I urge you to do the same if there are any questions in your mind about the wtc coins and if they are legit. Call PCGS ask them questions about the coins, ask them how many where certified, ask them about the chain of custody and how the coins ended up at PCGS. These are all questions that you should ask PCGS. Contact PCGS Customer Service at 800-447-8848.
As a side note PCGS is the biggest coin grading company in the world with over 17 million coins graded commanding a total value over $18 billion, PCGS represents the industry standard in third-party certification. PCGS offers money-back guarantee of grading accuracy and authenticity
I hope PCGS will get some call from readers of this page and please share any new information about the WTC Coins.
