My Christmas Gift from My Wife I hope

This is the ultimate set of WTC coins, as they have a few things going for them. They are all from the WTC, all from 2001, all are MS 69 and all have the barcode on them that will give population numbers with PCGS. This is the real deal here, its expensive but would love to own it.

As you can see there is a Best Offer attach in this auction and maybe the seller will let it go for 10k or something like that, but very nice set.

Putting together the 1 of 190 WTC set

So as always I look around Ebay to see what is available of the WTC coins and today, I can see something that might interest lots of people. The 1 of 190 set, the first set of 2001 coins put together by PCGS can be pieced together from different auction this week.

I have put below all the different auctions that you need to visit to put this set together but that is what us collectors do we collect and enjoy it.

So lets start with the big dog, the WTC $100 platinum coin.

After that there are a few ways to go to get the rest of the coins that are missing in the set. You can buy the rest of the coins from one seller, see it here.

Another way if you don't feel like spending that kind of money right now is piece it together 1 by 1 and there are some options for during that also this week.

I like the price on this $100 Australia WTC coin, I don't have any WTC Australia coins in my collection but the price is right on this one. I think this 1 oz gold coin is a nice example of Australia coins

WTC coins with heat/burn damage

Last week there where so pretty cool WTC  Coins up for sale on ebay, its was a whole collection of  6 coins all with heat or burn damage to them. The coins was from the WTC Vault and had clear evidence of the extrem heat the coins in the vault was facing after the towers fell.

I am sure the phone in the auction does not do the coin justice but it was I think a sucessful action and the coins are now sold to a new owner. It just another way of collecting the WTC coins, each has his own way I guess to collect.

The 1983 1 oz kruggerand wtc

It does not happen often that I find a coin from the world trade center vault that is not in my collection but today there was one. This 1983 1 oz Krugerrand was not in the collection on this website. Again as with many of the other coins I just know that it has been certified PCGS Ground Zero Recovery coin. But how many are out there of this 1983 gold coins is not certain. The seller on ebay is having at a Buy it now for $1500 but remember with the Krugerrand coins they are not .999 like the US eagles and gold coins they are .917 but still its now a historic coin and its for sale if anybody are out there collecting the South African WTC coins. How many gold kruggerands where there under the world trade center? how many different years, this is the 1983 1 oz gold coin but where there other coins still not seen here on the wtc911coin.com or other places. I will keep looking at Ebay for answers. The 1983  1 oz gold coin what a beauty

New WTC coin Never Seen Before

So this to me is a new coin in the WTC coin collection, its the 1 of 12 2001 silver eagle.

A very special WTC Ground Zero Recovery find!

On November 11, 2001 two months after the disaster, this 2001 American Silver Eagle was among those found within the vault. They were taken away by Brinks to a storage facility and subsequently graded by PCGS. There are only 12 of these in existence. This is the most rare silver eagle from a limited grouping of all WTC silver eagles.

This coin is part of a two piece set which was comprised of this coin along with a one ounce Credit Suisse Gold Ingot also marked "1 of 12". Being a "1 of 12" set, obviously there are only 12 that exist slabbed and certified by PCGS. Of the 12 sets that existed, 9 of those 12 sets were owned by one person who's secretary accidentally shipped the 1 of 12 Silver Eagles out as normal 2001 Silver Gem Unc Eagles.  Who knows if or when the others will ever surface as they are probably tucked away just as that ..... normal silver 2001 Gem Unc Eagles. WTC ERROR Coin Silver Eagle

So I think we should all go home and have a look at our WTC coins, there is a coin on Ebay right now a WTC $1 Silver eagle that has a double die error. The guy selling it has explain it very well in these pictures.

Its called a 9 -11- 01 WTC Ground Zero Recovery Error. Double die reverse its the first once of its kind I have seen but with all the silver eagle out there from the WTC I am sure there are more.

Best Christmas Gift 2008

I was thinking that one of the best Christmas gifts for 2008 would be a silver coin from 2001 found at Ground Zero in New York. The Silver Eagle dug from the debris of the World Trade Center and found in a vault under ground. This coin has with stood the destruction of the towers coming down and the extreme heat of the fires that raged for days after 9-11. This coin is a symble of America on how it gets itself up after it has been torn down and still looks as beautifull as ever. To give that gift to the guy or girl that has everything else, this would be the most treasured gift of all. The coins where found in both Silver, Gold and Platinum and was certified by PCGS as Ground Zero Recovery Coins.

$10 Gold Eagle WTC

It seams to me that the $10 and the $25 gold eagles from the world trade center ground zero are the hardest to find to complete a series. The 1 oz gold eagle are most often there and the 1/10 oz gold eagle is there but the 1/4 and the 1/2 oz seams harder to find. I was thinking about the reason for that. I can understand people investing in gold coins would put a $50 gold coin in their vault under the world trade center. But why would they put $5 gold coins over $10 or $25 gold coins ? I am not sure what the reason are but I will try and list all $10 and $25 gold eagles for sale on E-bay for people looking for one of these coins

Special World Trade Center Coins

Just came across this picture on the web, a great looking set with 4 WTC $5 gold coins and a $1 silver eagle, looks great in the show case box. Well look closer its the 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 WTC $5 Gold Coins and a 2001 $1 WTC Silver eagle looks great and I think the 2000 WTC $5 gold coins is very very scares with only 17 coins believed to have been found at ground zero. Looking at it now its a wow is it not ?

This is the 1996 Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf another of the Canadian Platinum coins found at the vault at WTC ground zero. So this is the second Canadian platinum coin we see on this site.

The WTC 1 of 426 Set

Now we have the complete detail of each set in the 1 of 426 WTC Ground Zero Recovery Set. This set consisted of $1 Silver Eagle 2001 certified Gem Uncirculated and 1 Credit Swiss Gold bar. All the sets came like this and many of the sets has been broken up but this was the original set.

• 11 September 2001, one of the worst days in American history next to the attack of Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941.

• 11 September 2001, the New York State Quarter 9-11 Firefighters coins are made with the special flag inserts. The New York State Quarter 9-11 Firefighters coin project was started at the PCGS Collectors Universe Forum by PCGS authorized dealer Mitchell Spivac and members of the Collectors Universe Forum forum. 100 numbered coins were finally completed with the help of PCGS. The US Flag insert used with the coin was designed by Senior Vice President of PCGS Miles Standish. 100% of the proceeds are donated to the Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) Widows and Children’s Fund. The auction of the 100 coins (numbered 1 thought 100) raised well over $42,000 thousand dollars. 9-11 quarter full story

• 1 November 2001 the workers at Ground Zero in New York reach the Iron Mountain Vault.

• 1 November - 1 December 2001 Coins are sent to Collectors Universe for certification. Collectors Universe does not grade coins so the coins are only certified and sonically sealed as "Gem Uncirculated" The initial sale of these coins is advertised by only a few authorized dealers which state that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these coins would be donated to the relief fund set up for the victims of September 11, 2001.

• 1 December 2001, PCGS gets into the picture and starts grading coins from ground zero. The coins being holdered by PCGS receive the respective grade and then are sonically sealed with a bar coded certification number. On some of the coins, the bar code is hidden behind the PCGS hologram.

• January 2002-June 2002, PCGS continues grading the different coin recovered as ordered by the “Originators” Coins encapsulated were gold, platinum, silver, copper etc. etc. Some coins were paired up in special sets with limited edition markings such as the 1 of 1000, 1 of 1140 etc. etc. Coins from approximately 10 different countries were recovered and authenticated, some with very low populations as stated on the certified holder.

• January 2001- 2004, collectors start to include World Trade Center Recovered coin into their registry sets although they are not recognized as WTC pieces when the certification number is looked up in the PCGS data base.

• January 2002 – Present, the controversy surrounding the WTC recovered coins has the numismatic community split up. Some collectors love the coins and consider them invaluable pieces of “American history” while others hate them with a passion and refer to them as "death coins".  In the meantime, the WTC coins continue to increase in value as other similar non WTC PCGS certified coins of the same year trade for considerable less.

One last we would like to mention is that these coins are not for everyone! We respect everyone else’s opinions, point of views and we hope that you do the same for everyone else too? If you are of the opinion that these coins should not be sold for a profit because of where they came from, that is your opinion and we respect it. However, to us, they are priceless and we will proudly display them for all to see no matter who buys or sells them.

$25 Gold Eagle 1999

The 1999 $25 gold coin was found in the WTC vault and certified by PCGS as WTC Ground Zero Recovery coin. I don't see a lot of the 1999 $25 gold eagle on E-bay so I would guess the population to less than 200 but I have no real information yet on this coin and its population. Great looking coin, see also the 1999 Gold Set on this site.

$50 Gold Eagle 1999 BU

Great looking coin in BU condition the 1999 $50 gold is very scares in MS69 but nobody really knows what the population in uncirculated BU condition. The coins when they first came to PCGS for certification as WTC recovered coins all coins where certified the same as uncirculated BU coins it was not until later in the process that PCGS started giving the coins a grade like they would normally do with a coin that got a certification. If anybody reads this has a population number on this coin or any other coin on this web site please let me know.

$1 Silver End Roll Coin

One of a kind end roll coin that has visible damage and unusual toning due to the heat exposure at ground zero in New York. These end roll coins displays a flaming copper toning.

The 2001-P NY Firefighters 9-11

The 9/11 charity coins,  were used as a vehicle to give 100% donations to those families of the NYPD firefighters who were in immediate need of outside financial assistance. The charity coin and the generous donations a collective effort of the people from the Collectors Universe Forum. The charity auction that sold off the 100 coins raised over $42,000 to families of the NYPD firefighters.

The PCGS WTC 911 Firefighters New York State Quarter was the first coin to have the American flag slap on it. This coin was however not found at ground zero and was not like the rest of the coins slap with Ground Zero Recovery Coin. These 100 coins where used as 100% donations to the NYPD firefighters.

$50 Gold Eagle 1998

The 1998 $50 Gold Eagle 1 oz. of pure gold surviving the world trade center collapse and still being in PCGS MS69 condition its just incredible. I would love to know the population of this coin.
